History
On 1st September 1927, Albert Alton, Maurice Hunter and Sidney Jones formed the current accountancy practice at 36 Bridge Street, Belper. Geoffrey Alton, the present senior partner is the son of Albert Alton.
In the 1930s they opened an office in Coventry but following the destruction of that office during the war, it was decided that Sidney Jones should take over those clients and work from home. In 1955, Maurice Hunter retired to the Isle of Man.
Geoffrey joined his father in 1960 with his brother, Richard, joining in 1965. Richard retired in 1994.
Geoffrey’s two daughters, Melodie and Fiona, both Chartered Accountants having trained at Hunter Jones Alton, joined their father in partnership around 2000 with Melodie leaving in 2006 to start a family.
The firm is one of the oldest family businesses in Belper still occupying the same premises.
Now in its 92nd year, we are happy to announce that our senior manager, Mrs Becky McKechnie, Chartered Accountant, has become a Partner as from 6th April 2019. Becky commenced working at Hunter Jones Alton in 2015, having joined us from working in industry after gaining experience in other firms of Chartered Accountants.
